Hermetic & Custom Designs

The Spencer Engineering Edge is indispensable when you are faced with handling flammable, explosive, unstable, toxic or hazardous gases and are not able to change the process that requires or produces them. Hermetic and custom blowers and gas boosters can be built to handle methane-rich landfill and digester gases, flue and stack gases, radioactive waste gases, acid fumes, natural gas, etc. Maximum parameters include temperatures to 1100°F, housing design pressures to 1000 PSIG, operating pressures to 500 PSIG.
We create cost-effective designs that meet your needs in the most sensible way. For example, if you have a process generating corrosive gases or fumes that might destroy a carbon steel or cast iron blower, we may offer special coatings for components in the gas stream or special materials of construction such as 316L stainless steel to deliver more blower longevity.
Nuclear industry experience
Spencer made the first gas boosters approved for use in nuclear breeder reactors. Our special high-pressure gas boosters with hermetically welded seams and internal electric motor are virtually leak-free; shaft seals are not required. We have lengthy experience with nuclear power plant blowers and gas boosters for component cooling, process ventilating, off-gas systems and LOCA (Loss of Coolant Accident) systems.
Spencer is a trusted vendor for the most critical air and gas handling applications in the world. Some examples:
Hermetic Gas Boosters
Hermetic construction can be supplied where the gas composition and temperature are compatible with available motors (the explosion-proof motor is encased by the blower housing, where it is cooled by flowing process gas). Electrical connections are made through a terminal box on the outside of the housing. Leakage rate can be as low as 10-9cc/sec.
Spencer also manufactures UL Listed hermetic gas boosters with explosion-proof motors for boosting utility street-level pressures of natural gas by as much as 83 inches WC with volumes to 240,000 CFH - the highest performance ratings available.
UL Listed Natural Gas Boosters - High Capacity SeriesPressure: to 83" WC
Volume: to 240,000 CFH
Power: to 30 HP
Spencer also offers a low-capacity series of UL Listed hermetic gas boosters with explosion-proof motors for natural gas.
Pressure: to 9" WC
Volume: to 12,000 CFH
Power: to 1/2 HP
GasCube Skid Packages
The GasCube® - Spencer's new UL Listed hermetic natural gas booster skid package series - is the answer for efficiently delivering gas at higher pressure. It allows for a fast and easy installation that boosts pressure levels by as much as 83 inches WC with volumes as high as 240,000 CFH. The GasCube packages are designed by Spencer engineers, factory assembled and tested before shipping. It arrives onsite prewired and prepiped, ready for easy installation. The GasCube package is ready for connection to field power and gas lines and has a compact footprint of 36 inches wide x 50 inches long x 76 inches high for Series 20 and 24, and 34 inches wide for Series 21.GasCube - Natural Gas Booster Skid PackagesHigh Pressure Gas Boosters

Digester Gas and Landfill Gas Booster Skid Packages
These custom, packaged systems contain gas boosters, controls and other equipment for handling methane-rich gases from organic decomposition in anaerobic wastewater digesters and municipal landfills. Instead of seeing them as only “nuisance byproducts,” informed operators are recovering these flammable gases as valuable alternate fuels for boilers, gas turbines, sludge heaters and fuel cells.
A companion Spencer product is the Natural Gas Dilution System, which compensates for variations in the supply of digester gas or landfill gas by adding natural gas to ensure a steady energy supply.
