Spencer has a catalog of choices to deal with unusual applications, developed over time as our engineers have faced one challenge or another. We have, for example, compiled lists of suitable materials of construction for blowers handling gaseous fumes of everything from acetic acid (Type 304 stainless steel) to sodium hydroxide (Hastelloy®), and moist chlorine (Inconel®) to nitric acid (316 SS).
Coatings are often used on blower internals for the same anti-corrosion reasons, but they are not intrinsically “better” than special materials. Spencer has printed evaluative factors to help establish the best choice for specific instances. Likewise, we have published guidelines for seal selection to limit shaft leakage to acceptable levels, balancing seal cost and complexity against sealing effectiveness.
Other areas of customization are in motors, drivers and drive arrangements. We can meet wide-ranging motor specifications such as nuclear qualification, special voltages, explosion-proof designs, etc., or omit electric motors entirely and supply alternative drivers (e.g., steam turbines, diesel engines or landfill gas-fueled engines).
Other special features for Spencer blowers help adapt them for your installation and operating conditions. We can provide all types of system accessories from routine flow switches and valves to recirculation systems for low flow conditions and bypass heat exchangers. We can also supply blowers and bases which comply with specific API standards for petrochemical plants and refineries.
Especially helpful are Spencer’s skid packages which include all blower system components, prewired and preplumbed, ready for connection to your electrical, process plumbing and purge gas lines.
Materials, Seals & Drives
Scores of blower metals and coatings can be selected by Spencer engineers to handle corrosive, flammable or moist gases. They balance price and capability to create cost-effective answers. Similarly, we can use a variety of shaft seals to achieve the right combination of sealing effectiveness, cost and simple maintenance. Special drive provisions are also possible—belt drives, diesel engine drivers, steam turbine drives, mill and chem duty motors, special voltages, variable frequency drives—whatever you need.Options & Accessories
Hundreds of blower options and accessories are available to meet your criteria for operator convenience, automated monitoring or resistance to difficult conditions. Spencer blowers can be equipped with optional features at the factory (e.g., water-cooled bearings, vibration monitors, Resistance Temperature Detectors) or supplemented with system accessories in the field (e.g., bypass heat exchangers, expansion joints, tubing manifolds, butterfly and check valves) as required.
